The Oregon Lottery Board has authorized a shift to move its sports wagering product, Scoreboard, from its conventional SBTech system to DraftKings’ structure.
Barry Parker, the Oregon Lottery’s chief executive officer, clarified at yesterday’s (August 26) board meeting that they have been contemplating a transition from the SBTech system, which has driven Scoreboard since 2019, to DraftKings’ modernized solution.
“There are some business advantages in terms of simplifying some of the framework, and it’s also beneficial to bettors because the experience will be enhanced on the new system,” Parker explained.
This will see the product operate under the DraftKings brand in the state moving forward, but a schedule for this change has not been disclosed.
DraftKings is migrating from its prior sports betting solution, which was provided by Kambi, to a modernized version of the SBTech system, following its acquisition of the supplier in December 2019. This migration is anticipated to be finalized in the third quarter of 2021.
In response to Commissioner Wilcox’s inquiry about potential issues and financial losses stemming from the alteration, Pack stated that the lottery would “endeavor to make the [procedure] as straightforward as feasible.”
However, he also mentioned that patrons would need to re-register for their DraftKings accounts to complete the transition. He suggested that this might deter some participants from making the switch, but any financial losses incurred by these individuals would be offset by the enhanced customer experience and expanded wagering options.
