Colombia’s Gaming Income Declines in January Despite Strong Growth

Colombias gaming income experienced a decline in January, falling by 7.4% in comparison to the preceding month. The total income reached a staggering 4.48 trillion Colombian pesos, which equates to roughly 1.15 billion US dollars. Despite this decrease from December, this figure still represents a substantial leap from January 2021, when income was only 2.50 trillion Colombian pesos.

Brick-and-mortar casinos witnessed a substantial surge, with income rising by 70.3% year-over-year, reaching 2.71 trillion Colombian pesos. Online gaming also experienced a notable increase, attaining 1.70 trillion Colombian pesos, a jump of 82.5% from the previous year.

Online sports wagering emerged as the most lucrative segment, generating 869.93 billion Colombian pesos. Online slots closely trailed behind, bringing in 339.27 billion Colombian pesos, while live casino contributed 247.67 billion Colombian pesos. The remaining online income stemmed from games such as roulette, poker, and blackjack.

SuperAstro, a lottery game, generated 50.41 billion Colombian pesos.

The Colombian government collected a substantial 60.01 billion Colombian pesos in taxes from the gambling industry, a significant increase from the 50 billion pesos collected in January 2021.
