The Garden State is rushing to postpone an August 29th judicial decision that halted alterations to casino taxation methods while the matter is under appellate review. These modifications, projected to save gambling establishments substantial sums, are facing opposition for allegedly providing undue advantages to the casino sector and potentially jeopardizing Atlantic City’s economic well-being over time. A magistrate is scheduled to consider the state’s request for a postponement on October 7th.
Christopher Glaum, the leader of gaming law enforcement, emphasized that if the legal system ultimately rejects the amendment, the prior legislation would be reinstated. This might result in a decrease in reinvestment in Atlantic City’s casino resorts, akin to what transpired between 2009 and 2017. This would be a significant setback, not only for Atlantic City’s financial well-being but also for the whole state.
